Sometimes people think that in order to have made progress on the path of yoga or meditation or whatever spiritual path, that they will start to become perfect or their lives will look differently. Or else they project onto their teacher or guide that they should be perfect or at the very least, saintly. I’m reminded of a story I read some years ago about a zen monk who attained enlightenment. It goes something like this…
One day at a monastery a monk attained enlightenment and word got out. Everybody was curious about it and so when they got ahold of the guy they asked him what it was like, what life was like now that he was enlightened. His response was that things were the same as before. Hmm. I love that story. |
